A suicide bomber has exploded a bomb in the middle of an Afghan wedding ceremony, killing over 20 people.
Another large group was wounded when the bomb was exploded by a suicide menace in the north of the country on Saturday.
The target of the bomber was a member of the Afghanistan parliament, Ahmad Khan Samangani, whose daughter was being married.
Samangani was welcoming guests in Aybak, the capital of Samangan province, when he was embraced by the bomber, who then detonated an explosives device which had been strapped to his body.
Other local dignitaries died or were wounded in the attack, which had been unexpected in the normally peaceful province.
Ahmad Khan Samangani was an ethnic Uzbek who had once served as a commander in the Afghanistan forces.
The Taliban, which has been blamed for the attack, has not yet made a statement.
Last year, a Taliban suicide attack killed General Daud Daud, a regional police commander.
Afghans have recently been concerned that the Taliban influence and violence will spread throughout the country when international troops pull out.
Around 130,000 international troops are currently in Afghanistan.
They are due to be out by 2014.
