Jimmy Kimmel hosted the Emmy Awards on Sunday night, but getting there wasn?t easy. As the show opened, we found a sobbing Kimmel in the lady?s room backstage, traumatized by a Botox job gone awry. Thankfully, a cast of some of television?s female actors ? from Zooey Deschanel and Mindy Kaling to Kathy Bates and Christina Hendricks ? were there to ?punch it back in? for Kimmel.
And the ever-reliable Ellen DeGeneres was there to lend him her pants.
Kimmel finally made it on stage, and kicked things off with a nod to the inventor of television, thanking him (?Nice job, dumbass?) for bringing us the likes of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.
And then things got political. Noting that Downton Abbey ?is an amazing show,? Kimmel remarked that it ?gives you a sense of what it must have been like to grow up in Mitt Romney?s house.? Asking the crowd who they?re voting for, Kimmel observed, ?Being a Republican in Hollywood is like being a Chik-Fil-A sandwich on the snack table on Glee.?
Kimmel ended on a more self-depracating note, remarking that the night was an occasion to ?honor one thing we in Hollywood love more than anything else: ourselves.? After all, that?s how the Emmys were named. Emmy = M-E. Me.
