Amy Hunt, a former book-club pal and current Pilates practicer, shared this bit of niftiness with me. Turns out that Rachael Lieck Bryce, co-owner of Classic Pilates in Uptown, had an interesting call from Steven Sofia, dance captain for Chicago musical, which is in town through Sunday.
Steven is a certified Power Pilates instructor, Rachael says, and was looking for a Pilates studio in which to work with his dancers.
?He was finding was that a lot of dancers don?t do Pilates and he?s found so much benefit from it for his personal life,? says Rachael, one of two Power Pilates teacher trainers in this region. ?He was looking for classical studio that would allow him to teach out of there.?
She said sure. So on Tuesday, three or four dancers came in; Wednesday, another two or three were there.
?He thinks it?s good for them to do because they?re getting that body connection,? Rachael says. ?Dancing is pretty taxing on their bodies, so this is restorative and helps them build strength. Pilates connects all the dots in the body; it helps you understand how to move and it recruits the proper muscles.?
Chicago is one of her all-time favorite musicals, Rachael says, so she was happy to offer her studio. Besides, ?Steven is amazing,? she says. ?He?s so lovely and caring and generous and a really nice man. He?s very strong, by the way.?
