Irving city secretary shares how she copes with brain cancer | Irving ...

maura and shanae.JPGAt the April 12 Irving-Las Colinas Rotary Club, Irving City Secretary Shanae Jennings explained why she always wears a "do-rag" covering her head. She told the group about her battle with brain cancer. She's finally opening up, she says, because she wants to increase awareness about the scary disease.

Jennings also wanted to draw attention to two upcoming fundraisers. The first is the Nick Gonzales Foundation Charity Golf Tournament and Dinner on April 27 at Prestonwood Country Club in Dallas. Visit http://www.nickgonzalesfoundation.org.

The second is Brain Tumor Awareness Night on June 30 at the Ballpark in Arlington. The Rangers play the Oakland Athletics.

In photo, Jennings poses with her good friend Maura Gast, director of the Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau. Gast invited Jennings to speak at the meeting. The Rotary meets at noon Thursdays at Las Colinas Country Club. To learn more, call 972-790-5963.
