FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) ? New York Jets owner Woody Johnson says quarterback Mark Sanchez "is our guy," but also wouldn't rule out the possibility of pursuing a veteran such as Peyton Manning if the Indianapolis Colts star became available.
Meeting with beat writers for the first time since the Jets failed to make the playoffs, Johnson says in a 30-minute far-ranging interview Thursday that "barring whatever" Sanchez would be the team's starting quarterback next season and in the foreseeable future.
He adds that there's "no such thing as 100 percent" in football, but highlighted Sanchez's age and projected progress as reasons to keep him over a healthy, established winning quarterback ? such as Manning.
Johnson says disgruntled wide receiver Santonio Holmes will be back, and the offense will be "more suitable" to Sanchez's abilities.
